The remains of Kenya's first Attorney General Charles Mugane Njojo were cremated at the Kariokor Cemetary at around 10:30am on Sunday, three hours after he died.

According to Njonjo’s son-in-law, the former AG passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday at 5:00am at the age 101.

Njonjo was the only surviving member of Kenya’s first post-independence cabinet.

He served as the Attorney General between 1963 and 1979, and later as Constitutional Affairs Minister between 1980 and 1983.
