The Judiciary Service Commission has summoned the former governor of Nairobi County, Mike Sonko, to appear before it on December 14, 2021.

Sonko has been summoned over details he revealed through his exposé; Rot in Judiciary, in which he revealed alleged corruption and malpractices perpetrated by a section of judges in collaboration with some lawyers.

“This is therefore to notify you, pursuant to the provisions of Article 252 (3)(b) of the Constitution and Section 42 Part VIII of the Judicial Service Act No. 1 of 2011, that the JSC will require your personal attendance to testify as a witness in the aforesaid matter which will proceed for the oral hearing on Tuesday 141* December 2021 at 9.00am at the JSC Offices at Re-Insurance Plaza Building, Podium Floor, Taifa Road,” the court summons read in part.

The commission has resolved to initiate proceedings against Judge Said Juma Chitembwe after Sonko’s expose brought his conduct as a judge to question.

“Consequently, the JSC resolved to Initiate proceedings against Hon Said Juma Chitembwe on its own motion pursuant to the provisions of Article 168 (I) and (2) of the Constitution,” read the summons.

Sonko is required to appear in person at the JSC offices within 7 days of being served with the summon to record his statement on the circumstances of the matter.

“In the meantime, the Commission shall require you to appear In person at the Judicial Service Commission Offices within Seven (7) days of service of this letter with a view to recording your statement on the circumstances surrounding this matter,” the letter read.

The former Nairobi County boss has been in the spotlight lately after sharing video and audio clips on social media implicating the Judge and his former lawyers in a web of impropriety and gross misconduct.

This prompted the lawyers to seek gag orders from the court to stop Sonko from further releasing any material in relation to his exposé series.

The court granted the lawyers’ prayer and issued a gag order restricting Sonko from further releasing material in his damning exposé "Rot in Judiciary series" on Monday.

Sonko also filed a petition seeking the removal of Chitembwe by the JSC.
