Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui has accused the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) board over the planned mass sacking of 900 junior employees.

Chelugui said the board did not follow the laid-out labour procedures before sending home the employees.

Chelugui has promised to take up the matter with Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe to ensure that it is resolved amicably.

Chelugui wants the KEMSA board to review its decision and be able to justify the reason why the employees were fired.

Chelugui added the investigations have been going on over the reported corruption scandals at KEMSA.

KEMSA has been on spot over allegations of flouting procurement rules leading to the misappropriation of over Sh7 billion set aside for the battle against COVID-19.

The government has been trying to get things right at authority, following the scandal, KEMSA CEO Jona Manjari was suspended in August last year and the KEMSA board was overhauled.

The authority appears it's still on the road to recovery, only last week, the KEMSA board announced personnel from the National Youth Service(NYS)will oversee the operations at the authority on a temporary notice.
