An angry mob in Nairobi’s Buruburu Estate has set ablaze two criminals aged between 18 to 25.

According to sources, the two miscreants on a boda-boda had snatched a mobile phone from a woman along Jogoo Road and fled.

The woman wasted no time and hailed another boda-boda and engaged the duo in hot pursuit.

The two criminals branched from Jogoo Road into Rabai road that connects Jogoo Road to Sonko Road, Buruburu Road and Mumias South Road.

The victim shouted for help as the boda-boda she boarded raced to catch up with the criminals and fortunately, someone heard her.

It took the intervention of other boda-boda operators who intercepted the getaway boda-boda at the Mumias South Road - Rabai Road junction and seized; the section of the road between The Point Mall and Rubis Petrol Station formerly Kenol Petrol Station.

The commotion attracted members of the public, including vehicle mechanics who operate nearby. They descended on the two young men with blows and kicks before setting them ablaze with their getaway motorbike.

Police arrived at the scene only but too late as what they found was charred remains of the criminals.

They condemned the act of citizens taking the law into their own hands instead let the criminals be prosecuted by law.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi cautioned the public against mob justice even as such cases become rampant. He asked the public to allow police to implement the law.

“As much as these cases have become too much and annoying, I wouldn’t advise anyone to engage in such violent activities. We have police officers, and they are the ones who should implement the law,” Nthumbi said.

The two are said to be part of criminal gangs that terrorize the public in that area.
