ODM leader Raila Odinga has promised to support miraa farmers in Meru County by probing with foreign markets for the product.

Accompanied by the county governor Kiraitu Murungi, Odinga said once he becomes the President in next year’s general election, he will examine new markets with other countries including DR Congo.

Other countries that are notable for buying miraa include Somalia, which has been a key market for the product.

Drumming his support for Odinga, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has urged residents of Meru County to feel free and sell their Commodity in his County.

‘’It is a free market to miraa in Mombasa County," declared Joho.

Odinga’s promise comes when The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) embarks on plans to standardize miraa for International markets.

Several African countries have also shown interest in opening upmarket for the commodity.

Raila has been traversing the country in a bid to ramp up his support base ahead of the 2022 poll.

Addressing students of Meru University, Odinga said he will ensure HELB is no longer a loan but a grant when he becomes president.
