Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has dismissed myths surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines.

Matiang'i was speaking during a visit to one of the Kenyan prison facilities, where he urged everyone eligible to get vaccinated against the COVID-19.

He dismissed as idle chatter, a common narrative that the vaccine is likely to cause some reproductive system dysfunction.

"Nimesikia maneno mingi watu wakisema hata haya waziri alikuwa anasema hapa. Eti ukichanjwa shida itatokea huku. Ati battery itazimika, sijui nini. Actually, if waziri had not said I was going to ask him, lakini amesema sitaki kumuuliza hiyo ni siri yake. Amesema amechanjwa, na amejaribu amepata battery bado inafanya kazi," said Matiangi.

He was reiterating sentiments of the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who said the vaccines are safe and do not pose any such harm.

He encouraged Kenyans not to be afraid and avoid cheap talk being peddled around about the safety of the vaccines, as the Health CS has proven that the vaccines are safe.

"Sasa kama waziri mwenyewe amechanjwa, na bado transformer bado inafanya kazi kabisa, na anaendesha hiyo mambo sasa wewe unasumbuka kitu gani? We chukua shindano wachieni hii porojo hii ndogo ndogo ya huku, ya kudanganyana huju jioni ati hii kitu inaweza kukufanya hivi. Hakuna kitu itakufanya," Matiang'i added.
