Three people died as seven others sustained serious injuries after a PSV matatu collided with a lorry on the Embu-Makutano road in Kirinyaga County.

Those who survived the Saturday night crash had head, chest, hand and leg wounds are being treated at Whiterose Medical Centre.

Eyewitnesses say two passengers succumbed to their serious injuries on the spot while the third victim died on arriving at the hospital.

The accident happened after the lorry driver lost control following a tyre burst and rammed the matatu.

The accident caused a major traffic snarl-up after the residents blocked the road to rescue survivors who were trapped in the matatu.

The three who dies were all aboard the commuter matatu and the residents called on the government to erect speed bumps to tame road carnage at the blackspot.
