Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has a reason to be happy after a Nairobi court terminated forgery charges against him.

This follows Supreme Court’s ruling last month that Jirongo cannot answer to an offence allegedly committed about 24 years ago.

The charges were dropped after Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi adopted the Supreme Court ruling.

The prosecution said they were withdrawing the matter under section 87A but the judge terminated the matter under section 89 (5) because the charges were defective and were not supposed to have been filed against Jirongo.

"In the circumstances, I find that the proper section to terminate the charges is section 89 (5) where the charges should have been found to be defective as they ought not to have been filed against him in the first place," ruled Andayi.

Lady luck seems to have smiled at the former legislator as the judge also ruled that his cash bail of Sh200,000 be refunded to him.

"The charges are hereby terminated and the cash bail of Sh200,000 refunded to him," Andayi added.

Jirongo was charged in 2016 with forgery relating to a property he bought in Upper Hill 30 years ago.
