Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua was released from police custody.

Rigathi was released after posting a Sh12 million cash bail as had been ordered by the court.

He broke his silence and spoke for the first time since his arrest last Friday.

Rigathi thanked God, his family, Deputy President William Ruto, his constituents and everyone who stood with him.

“I thank all those who committed me to prayer. I thank the great people of Mathira for their prayers and for believing in my innocence. I thank the Hustler Nation under the leadership of Dr William Ruto for their support and comradeship,” Rigathi wrote.

Rigathi also thanked the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers who handled him from the time of his arrest, through his detention in Gigiri Police Station.

“I thank all the police officers at the DCI headquarters and Gigiri Police Station for treating me with dignity and respect and being very professional in discharging their duties,” he said.

Rigathi was released after his ‘Hustler Nation’ friends contributed the Sh12 million cash bail and secured his release.

He was arrested on Friday at his home in Mathira by DCI officers and whisked to the DCI headquarters in Nairobi along Kiambu road for questioning.

Rigathi was taken to court on Monday where he was charged with Sh7 billion in fraud.
