18 patients succumbed to Covid-19 within 24 hours, bringing the fatalities due to the virus in Kenya to 920, inching ever closer to the 1,000 mark.  

The Ministry of Health said in a statement on Monday that 276 new Coronavirus cases were confirmed after testing 2,126 samples in 24 hours, bringing the total caseload locally to 49,997.

179 of the new Covid-19 patients are male and 97 are female, with the youngest being a two-year-old child and the oldest was 90 years of age.

According to MOH, on Monday 20 patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 52 on supplementary oxygen while 20 others were in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Only three of the 276 new virus cases were foreigners, even as 220 people recovered from virus raising total recoveries to 34,429.

MOH said 70 of the recovered Covid-19 patients were reported in various hospitals countrywide as 150 others recovered from the home-based care progamme.

The total number of tests conducted in Kenya so far, according to the ministry, is 662,046.

It was further revealed by the ministry that a total of 1,191 people were admitted in various hospitals countrywide while 1,406 patients were under the home-based care programme.
