ODM leader Raila Odinga has vowed to jail all officers who have stolen funds from the Kenyan public if he is elected president in the 2022 general election.

Raila said dealing with looters of public funds would be his first task in office.

The remarks by the former Prime Minister in Mombasa on Saturday, is the clearest indication yet that he is keen on running for president for the fifth time in next year’s poll.

He accused unnamed top politicians in Kenya of stealing billions of shillings which they then donate to churches, as well as women and youth groups for political gain ahead of 2022.

“They are hyenas. You see them come here in sheep’s clothing and claim they will fundraise for women and youth groups. That is stolen money,” Raila said in Mombasa.

In a shocking return to his previous self, the ODM party leader repeated his claims years ago that Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Nairobi-Mombasa project was inflated by Sh120 billion.

Odinga, who first sought the presidency in 1997, has been hesitant to declare his interest in State House since he initiated the handshake partnership with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018.

He has also in recent years criticised Deputy President William over his huge cash donations, especially to churches, terming them looted public funds.
