Police on Sunday arrested three suspects who were armed with machetes as they prepared to attack motorists using the Southern Bypass in Nairobi.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Brian Mwangi and Nickson Muchiri, both aged 25, were arrested during an operation done by police officers from Lang’ata.

A third suspect aged 15 was also apprehended as he tried to escape the police dragnet into the nearby Ngong forest.

Detectives also impounded two motorcycles which were being used by the suspected thugs as their getaway means after committing crimes against city motorists.

The arrest of the three suspects follows a spate of attacks targeting motorists on the busy Southern Bypass during the day and night.

This comes a week after six other suspects were flushed out of Ngong Forest during a similar operation, after they attacked a motorist and his three-year-old son.
