Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has apologized to motorists over the traffic mess and flooding that have resulted from ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.

KENHA says disruption of traffic on the stretch from Mlolongo to James Gichuru road was due to the Expressway construction and relocation of water and sewer pipes, power lines and ICT cables.

“the ongoing rains have also created further constrictions as the relocation works in some instances have interfered with the existing side drainage causing ponding of water along certain locations on the road, further constricting the trafficked lanes beyond lane closures that were programmed.

“We have initiated drainage improvement works at locations such as Nyayo Stadium roundabout to ensure the drainage remains free flowing at all affected locations.”

Following a public outcry, KENHA says it is collaborating with traffic police to manage the situation to minimise inconveniences being experienced by motorists and other road users.

Heavy traffic snarl ups have been witnesses on Mombasa Road for the past three week as heavy rains pounded the city leaving motorists stranded in flooded sections of the incomplete Nairobi Expressway.
