Meru County Senator Mithika Linturi has been arrested and is being held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi.

Police arrested Linturi while on his way to the parliament to take part in the Constitutional Amendment bill discussion popularly known as the BBI

According to the Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Sen. Linturi sent an SOS distress call to him and informed him of his arrest and that he was being taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.

Senator Cheruiyot rose to draw his colleagues' attention to the matter and asked for their direction and guidance on the same.

"I received a distress call from one of our colleagues, Senator Mithika Linturi this afternoon while he was driving to Parliament, he was stopped by gentlemen who claimed to be police officers from DCI," stated Cheruiyot.

However, Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi rubbished the arrest as discord between the police and Linturi.

Wamatangi also claimed that Sen. Linturi was on his way to the parliament as he had already been released.

The announcement prompted the sitting to be postponed by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka as he asked the security personnel to get to the bottom of the matter.

Linturi had earlier in the year hit the headlines after he went to court seeking protection against his arrest that was impending over claims by his estranged wife Marianne Kitani, that he used forged signatures to secure a Sh530 million bank loan with her properties as collateral.
