Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been re-elected for the 5th term in the same position in a boycotted election.

Atwoli was declared the winner by trade union representatives at the Tom Mboya Labour College In Kisumu.

Atwoli’s main challenger for the position, The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) secretary-general Seth Panyako boycotted the elections.

33 other officials of the union were also elected unchallenged.

The trade unionist has held that position since 2001 when he took over from Joseph Mugalla

Mr. Atwoli took to his twitter handle to express his gratitude to the Kenyan workers re-electing him unopposed

Recently there has been a public outcry from a section of Kenyan workers and the general public for Atwoli to step down from the position that he has held over a long period of time and allow someone else to take over.
