A Kenyan man will have an average of seven partners he has sexual intercourse with in his lifetime, on the other hand, a Kenyan has only two, according to a newly released survey.

The sexual behavior of Kenyan men and women was captured in the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) 2023 released by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

The report released on Tuesday showed 35 per cent of Kenyan men said they had sex with a person other than their wives in the last 12 months compared to 19 per cent of women.

According to the KDHS report, however, among those who admitted to having extramarital affairs in the last 12 months, more men than women used condoms during the intercourse.

“A higher proportion of men (15%) than women (4%) reported having two or more sexual partners in the 12 months prior to the survey,” the report indicated.

The report added, “Of those with more than one partner in the last 12 months, 24% of women and 45% of men reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse.”

The report that has shed more light into the sexual patterns in Kenya also revealed that wealthier and more educated women, especially those residing in urban areas, admitted that they had sex with more than two partners in the last 12 months.

The demographic with the highest percentage of men and women with more than two sexual partners was the 20-24 at 5.8 per cent followed by 15-29.

Women aged 40-49 admitted to having the least percentage of those with more sexual partners at 2.4 per cent, according to the survey released by KNBS.

Similarly, wealthier and more educated men also admitted to having more sexual partners compared to their colleagues who are not as endowed economically and academically.

The report revealed that men aged 20-29 had the highest percentage of those with more than two sexual partners at 21.5 per cent, followed by men aged 30-39 at 17 per cent.

13 per cent of men aged 40-49 recorded having more than two sexual partners while teenage men (15-19) recorded the least percentage of those with more than two sexual partners at 5.3 per cent.

The sensational report on the sexual behavior of Kenyans has been received by Kenyan with mixed reactions with some agreeing with its shocking findings while some have faulted it.

This comes days after a report by Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) revealed a high rate of drug-resistant super gonorrhea infections among residents of Nairobi County.
