President Uhuru Kenyatta has replaced the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) board chairperson Kembi Gitura following recent multi-million-shilling tender scandals.

Uhuru announced the decision Thursday replacing Gitura with Mary Chao Mwadime for a period of three years, months after a scam on procurement of Covid-19 Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) rocked the agency.

According to a gazette notice on the decision, Health Cabinet Mutahi Kagwe has also disbanded the KEMSA board and appointed a new five-member team to take over.

The other members appointed to the scandal-ridden authority's board for a period of three years are Lawrence Wahome, Robert Nyirangu, Terry Kiunge Ramadhani and Linkon Nyaga Kinyua.

This comes as MPs protested Kenyatta’s appointment of Gitura, the former Senate Speaker and Murang’a Senator, to the Communications Authority as a probe continued into the KEMSA scandal.

This comes amid complaints raised by many Kenyans online on the seriousness of the government to get to the bottom of the scandal that roped in big names in the government and in the political circles as well as well-connected businessmen.
