Acting Health Director General, Dr Patrick Amoth has become the first person to receive the Covid-19 vaccine on Kenyan soil.

The AstraZeneca jab was administered to Dr Amoth at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Nairobi on Friday at noon, in a ceremony witnessed by top local and international health officials.

After the Acting DG, Kenyan health workers, Dr Jemimah Katama, Dr Kennedy Momanyi and Dr Juliana Muiva, followed suit in getting the jabs alongside 7 others .

The four took the Coronavirus vaccine amid rising scepticism among health workers and the Kenyan general public on the efficacy of the vaccines that landed in the country on Tuesday night.

This comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta warned Kenyans against spreading rumours and false information about the 1.02 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines that landed in the country this week.

President Kenyatta was speaking when he flagged off the first consignment of the Covax vaccines headed for the counties ahead of the Kenya’s national vaccination program that was launched on Friday.
