Mang’u High School has received a decommissioned Boeing 737-700 from Kenya Airways, marking a significant milestone in its aviation programme.

The donation, flagged off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday, is the culmination of three years of planning between the national carrier, the institution, and the school’s alumni.

During the handover ceremony, Kenya Airways Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Hellen Mathuka expressed her hope that the aircraft would serve as a resource for nurturing future aviation professionals.

“This aircraft, once soaring the skies, now begins a new chapter as a learning resource to inspire and equip future aviators, engineers, and innovators,” Mathuka said.

The event, graced by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, Nation Media Group Chairperson Wilfred Kiboro, Kasarani MP Captain Ronald Karauri, and Mang’u Principal John Kuria, highlighted the school’s commitment to holistic education.

Archbishop Anyolo praised the partnership, linking it to the Catholic Church’s annual theme of giving and inspiring hope.

“Kenya Airways has truly observed the invitation of the Holy Father by donating this aircraft to inspiring aviators of Mang’u High School,” he remarked.

Principal Kuria noted that the Boeing 737-700 would elevate the school’s aviation classes, providing students with a modern training platform and motivating them to achieve academic excellence.

“This is an aircraft that is known worldwide, and Mang’u is going to be the first school to receive such a donation from Kenya Airways. It is a milestone for our school and the community around Mang’u,” he said.

This is the second aircraft to be donated to the institution, following an earlier contribution from Wilson Airport.

The principal emphasised that the larger size of the Boeing 737-700 would better serve the growing student population and inspire higher academic performance.

The school’s recent Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results included 107 straight As, underscoring its academic prowess.

Nation Media Group partnered with Kenya Airways for the event, with Chairperson Kiboro pledging continued support for such transformative initiatives.

“As the media partner for this event, we will make sure that we provide an inspiring story for the young men and women to aspire to greater things and heights,” Kiboro said.

The ceremony also celebrated Captain Karauri, a Mang’u alumnus, who had flown the very aircraft now destined to inspire the next generation of aviators.
