Securing an internship is one of the toughest things a young person goes through after they graduate in Kenya as they seek to get training to better prepare them for the job market.

Without this opportunity to acquire the relevant skills and experience, most graduates with good academic papers end up disadvantaged in their quest to kick off their career journey.

This gap impelled NCBA Bank to launch the Go Getter Internship Program to accord fresh graduates internship chances at NCBA’s Business Units to set their careers on the right path.

The significant career enhancing program empowers the fresh graduates with vital mentorship from top corporate leaders across the various department within NCBA Bank.

Based on NCBA’s Education Citizenship Agenda, the initiative gives hands-on corporate experience to graduates with top performers getting a chance to be absorbed into the bank.

When it was unveiled in 2023, the Go Getter Internship Program drew 45 young graduates who have received a shot in the arm in their quest to launch successful corporate careers.

In 2024, a second cohort of 51 interns have joined the eight-month program that will see them assigned to different teams within NCBA Bank to kick off their professional careers.

At NCBA, we are committed to nurturing young talent. What we aim to do is provide you with a hands-on experience into the real world of work,” says NCBA Group Director of Human Resources & Culture, Monicah Kihia.

John Njoroge, who started out with the NCBA Go Getter Internship Program, was absorbed into NCBA and has risen to the position of assistant manager in charge of branch operations.

“Believe in yourself, you have what it takes. Believe in your abilities. The fact that you are in this program means you are in the right place,” Njoroge advices the interns joining in 2024.

Sheryl Awuor, also a beneficiary of the program in 2022, later got a permanent employment letter for an operations assistant position under the bank’s Custodial Services Department.

“I would like to grow into a position of more influence and I would like to use the skills that I have acquired within the bank for greater service delivery,” an elated Awuor intimated.

The program exposes the future go-getters to various key aspects of NCBA among them Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, HR, Finance, and Regional Business.
