A seasoned diplomat and former Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Amina Mohamed, has been named the Commonwealth Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Sports, Enterprise, and Development, marking a pivotal moment in her illustrious career.

The appointment, announced shortly after her unanimous admission into the prestigious Interpeace Governing Board, chaired by Amre Moussa of Egypt, reflects the recognition of Amina's exceptional capabilities by international governing bodies.

The Interpeace Governing Board, composed of distinguished figures from government, international, and business sectors, serves as the highest decision-making body of the organization.

In a letter from the Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, Amina's appointment was attributed to her impressive professional background and extensive experience across various domains.

Scotland emphasized Amina's ability to leverage her broad expertise and extensive network of contacts, noting that these qualities position her well to harness the vast potential of Commonwealth connections.

"The breadth of expertise and range of contacts on which you are able to draw will enable you to build in new ways on the immense potential of Commonwealth connection and the mutual support which flourishes among our member countries," the statement read.

Amina's distinguished career includes serving as Kenya's Sports Cabinet Secretary from March 2019 to November 2022.

Under her leadership, Kenya witnessed remarkable achievements in the sports sector, hosting international events such as the WRC Safari Rally after a two-decade hiatus and becoming the first African country to host the Continental Gold Tour (Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour).

Notable milestones during her tenure include overseeing the World Under-18 and Under-20 Athletics Championships, the Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour athletics Meet, Agnes Tirop World Cross Country Meet, and the Africa Deaflympics ball games, held in Kenya for the first time.

Amina's contributions extended beyond sports, as she addressed challenges in education during her term as Cabinet Secretary from February 2018 to March 2019 and played a pivotal role in foreign affairs from May 2013 to February 2018.

Her impactful leadership also resolved issues within the cricket federation, paving the way for elections after a prolonged stalemate between factions.
