The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has appointed Dr. David Njeng’ere Kabita as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1, 2021, for a five-year term.
Njeng’ere is taking over from Dr. Mercy Karogo, who has been acting in that capacity for the past five years.

Dr. Njeng’ere is a Hubert Humphrey Fellow and holds a Ph.D. in Education from Moi University, a Masters in English, a Bachelor of Education in English and Literature, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development.

Dr. Njeng’ere boasts of 30 years of experience and specialization in assessment and curriculum design.
The new KNEC appointee was also contributory to the formation and design of the current Competency-Based Curriculum and Competency-Based Assessment.

For the past three years, Njeng’ere has also served as the Education advisor to the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Education, a position he still holds to date.
Njeng’ere also has teaching experience in several secondary schools across the country.
On the regional and international scopes, Njeng’ere has also been a delegate and chair of the East African Community Technical Committee on harmonizing curricula and education systems.
KNEC is a state corporation in charge of conducting national examinations in the county at school and post-school levels.
