Baby Shark, the very catchy children’s song recorded by South Korean company Pinkfong, is officially the most viewed video ever on Youtube.

The video has attracted 7.04 billion views on Youtube, speeding past Despacito, a hit song released in 2017 by Puerto Rican singers Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

It has taken Baby Shark slightly more than four years to rise to the top spot.

It is yet unclear who the original writer of the song is but it has been used as a nursery rhyme for years.

However, the cute song became a global hit in many households after it was recorded by 10-year-old Korean-American singer Hope Segoine.

The song produced by Pinkfong first went viral in south-east Asia before it became an even bigger hit in the US and Europe and it rose to Number 6 in the UK singles chart and Number 32 in the US.

The repetitive “Sharky-doo-doo-doo-du-du-du-du-du-du” is only one minute and 21 seconds long but has managed to break the record long held by Despacito.

However, children’s songwriter Jonathan Wright sued Pinkfong in 2019 after recording a similar version of the song in 2011 and claimed copyright but the matter is pending.

In October, three Oklahoma prison employees were charged with cruelty after they reportedly handcuffed prisoners and forced them to stand and listen to Baby Shark for as long as two hours.
