President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that all teachers across the country, no matter their age, be vaccinated for Covid-19 ahead of the reopening of schools early next month.

This has been announced by Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Nancy Macharia during the release the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Thursday.

“The President has allowed us to ensure that all teachers will be allowed to take the Covid-19 vaccine irrespective of their age... we are appealing to all teachers, therefore, to ensure that they get the jab even as we reopen the schools,” she said.

Initially, TSC had directed that only teachers who are aged above 50 would be allowed to receive the Astrazeneca jab during the ongoing national rollout of the vaccination program.

The TSC boss further appealed to all teachers to ensure they stick to all government Covid-19 regulations, while also assuring that their insurer will cover all Covid-19-related ailments

Macharia revealed that 26 teachers succumbed to Covid-19 in Kenya and urged teachers who will travel to Nairobi for KCSE marking next week to ensure they are vaccinated first.
