Oscar Award-winning Kenyan Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o on Friday clapped back at Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala for claiming she had been unreachable for five years.
In a short but powerful tweet, Lupita laughed off the allegation by Balala that the ministry had attempted to get her for a tourism role through her American handlers unsuccessfully.
She posted, “Me when I hear the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism has been looking for me for fives years. #Imrightherebaby #alternativefacts,” accompanied by a photo of herself laughing her head off.
The widely retweeted tweet elicited varied reactions, especially from Kenyans, some bashing the Tourism CS for the remarks they felt was a goof while others lambasted Lupita terming her response unnecessary.

During a function in Nairobi on Friday, Balala had defended his decision to settle on supermodel Naomi Campbell for the Magical Kenya international ambassador to market Kenya abroad.
It is while defending the ministry position to pick Campbell that she claimed they had been unsuccessful in trying to reach out to Lupita for such a role allegedly due to her busy schedule.
Lupita is the daughter of Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o who belongs to ODM party which is in a political deal with the ruling Jubilee Party following a handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.
Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans:
