Media practitioner and former K24 journalist Tony Kwalanda has announced plans to vie for an elective seat in his home county of Kakamega in the 2022 General Election.

Speaking to Swala Nyeti, the renowned sports journalist said he will be seeking to become the next Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Manda Shivanga Ward in the coming general polls.

In preparation for the hotly contested ward elections, Kwalanda said he is currently focusing his energies on charity activities in the area to help improve the lives of his people.

“My long-term plan is to vie for MCA, Manda Shivanga Ward in Malava constituency in 2022. For now, I continue assisting the self-help groups and clubs in the area,” Kwalanda told Swala Nyeti.

The media personality and ardent golfer currently hosts the Sports Center show that airs on Switch TV every Monday.

“I have a weekly show on Switch TV every Monday 8pm to 9pm and I do my PR and marketing hustle,” he added.

Before joining Switch TV, Kwalanda worked for 11 years at K24 TV which is owned and managed by Mediamax Limited based along Kijabe Street in Nairobi.

He was, however, among 100 journalists who were rendered redundant by K24 in July last year as the station restructured to tackle its dwindling fortunes at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
