Controversial politician and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, has issued a public statement distancing himself from a verified Twitter page under his name.

Upon noticing the ongoing confusion by the big tech company, Babu Owino was forced to release a statement addressing the same 

According to Babu people should highly keep off from the pseudo account stating that it’s run by scammers who only want to bring him down.

In a cross-check done by Swala Nyeti, the verified parody account which was created in 2017 has amassed over 38k followers while the original but unverified account by Babu Owino has over 177k followers.

“I would like to make a clarification on my Twitter account. My official Twitter account is @HEBabuOwino. Twitter has made a great mistake to verify a fake account under my account under my name called @Babu Owino1 or @HEBabuOwino_. Those are fake accounts and I will like to distance myself from it. Any other information that Kenyans will get from that account @HEBabuOwino_ is fake account which has been verified by Twitter." Babu

The politician also accused the account owner of maliciously using his (Owino) identification card to get a verification from Twitter.

“This means the scammers went ahead forged my ID and used it for verification of the same account, so ignore” He announced.

He further reiterated and pleaded with Kenyans to stay away from the pseudo account to avoid being conned

“Fellow Kenyans please IGNORE the FAKE ACCOUNT verified by TWITTER under the name @Babu Owino1 or @HEBabuOwino_ The perpetrators want to soil my otherwise good name. My OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT is @HEBabuOwino without UNDERSCORE,” said Babu Owino.


He went further to threaten to exit Twitter if the social media app does not verify his account.

A Twitter blue tick signifies a verified account that has been confirmed by Twitter as being authentic. These accounts are often used by celebrities, politicians, and brands to show they are who they say they are.
