Passengers travelling on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service to and from Mombasa will soon enjoy seamless access to the city centre following Kenya Railways Corporation’s plan to introduce a Link train.

The new service, set to begin operations in the near future, will connect Mombasa Terminus with Mombasa Railway Station in the heart of the coastal city.

Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga inspected the corridor between the two stations on Tuesday, as the project nears completion.

Speaking during the tour, he affirmed that preparations were in their final stages to enhance connectivity for commuters, tourists, and residents.

"We are looking to operationalize the Link train for Mombasa County soon. Once operational, residents, tourists & train enthusiasts to Mombasa will use the Link train," Mainga stated.

"This train will ease access to not only Mombasa Terminus & Mombasa CBD but also the areas in between these destinations."

The new service is expected to ease movement between the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminus and the central business district, offering a more efficient alternative to road transport.
