Nairobi County has unveiled fresh measures aimed at reducing noise pollution in the city’s Central Business District (CBD).
With the goal of creating a more peaceful environment, the county government is taking strong action against noise created by matatu touts, kamageras, and businesses playing loud music.
County askaris have been strategically deployed across key points in the CBD to arrest matatu touts and kamageras who disrupt the streets with their loud calls.
Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Environment, made it clear that these disturbances would no longer be tolerated.
"We have strategically stationed our county askaris so that they can arrest those making noise in town, including matatu touts and kamageras shouting along the streets," Mosiria explained, sending a stern warning to those contributing to the growing noise.

The crackdown also targets shop owners who amplify their businesses with loud music and DJs, often disturbing nearby areas.
Mosiria highlighted that such noise disrupts daily activities and creates challenges for neighbouring businesses and schools.
"This noise disrupts normal activities in the city and causes disturbances to nearby businesses and schools within the CBD," he added.
Through these measures, Nairobi City County appears tobe stepping up its efforts to ensure a quieter, more orderly environment in the heart of the city.
