The overall progress of the construction of the Nairobi Expressway is currently at 30 per cent.

This is according to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, who says the Nairobi Expressway project is on course for a timely completion.

Macharia spoke as he inspected construction works at the project on Wednesday.

“The Nairobi Expressway is expected to enhance Nairobi’s economic competitiveness and consolidate Kenya’s leading position as an investment destination in the region,” Macharia said.

Last month the CS indicated that the four-lane expressway would be completed by the end of this year due to fast tracking, and not next year as had earlier been projected.

Macharia had indicated that the 27-kilometre project is just but a part of a wider plan to enhance the city’s infrastructure, with other key construction projects set to take place to complement the mega project by the Jubilee Government in its Big 4 Agenda.

While touring the ongoing construction along the Southern By-pass, Macharia had intimated the Sh60 billion highway would elevate Nairobi as East Africa region’s business hub, once complete.
