In a significant stride towards industrialization, the Association of Special Economic Zones (ASEZ) was officially launched on Wednesday.

This landmark event marks a pivotal moment for Kenya’s economic landscape, uniting industry players to drive the future of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The formation of ASEZ brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including SEZ developers, operators, investors, and service providers.

This unified voice will advocate for favourable policies, streamlined regulations, and improved infrastructure, fostering a conducive environment for growth.

Addressing the launch, Dr. David Langat, Chairman of ASEZ, underscored the critical role of manufacturing in Kenya’s economic development.

“As the key driver of industrial growth, manufacturing within SEZs has a ripple effect across the economy, creating jobs for our youth and positioning Kenya as a regional powerhouse," Langa stated.

"Through ASEZ, we aim to strengthen this sector and build on its potential to deliver long-term, sustainable growth. ASEZ is committed to ensuring that SEZs operate in a globally competitive, business-friendly environment, and we are excited to work with the government to further drive growth in this critical sector.”

Solomon Mahinda, Vice Chairman of ASEZ, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential of SEZs to attract investment and create jobs.

The launch event also witnessed the participation of key government officials, including Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion.

Abubakar emphasized the government's unwavering support for SEZs, aligning with President Ruto's vision for industrialization and economic growth.

"The launch of ASEZ is not just a milestone for the association but a major leap for our country," Abubakar stated.

"SEZs are a central pillar in the government's economic agenda, and we see them as champions of Kenya’s journey towards becoming a globally competitive investment hub."

ASEZ members will benefit from favourable investment support, close collaboration with government entities, and access to global best practices.

By joining the association, members will also gain access to networking opportunities, trade facilitation, and tailored solutions to address specific challenges.

As more SEZ enterprises join ASEZ, the association's growing membership underscores its widespread support and critical role in shaping Kenya's economic future.

With a strong mandate and a united voice, ASEZ is poised to drive the growth and development of SEZs in Kenya, positioning the country as a leading investment destination.
