Safaricom has achieved a significant milestone in its 5G network expansion, reaching 1,114 sites across Kenya.

This development is part of the telecommunications giant's broader ambition to provide ultra-speed internet to Kenyans, marking a crucial step in the country's digital transformation.

The 5G network, now operational in 102 towns, covers 14 per cent of Kenya’s population.

This connectivity extends to over 780,000 active smartphones, illustrating the growing adoption of the next-generation technology.

Safaricom’s strategic focus on 5G comes in response to the rising demand for faster and more reliable internet, particularly from enterprise customers.

Currently, more than 11,000 businesses have subscribed to the service, underscoring its increasing importance in the corporate sector.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa highlighted the transformative potential of 5G, stating, “The benefits of 5G will be a key catalyst in advancing innovations and industries, thereby boosting Kenya’s digital economy.”

This sentiment reflects the company's commitment to playing a pivotal role in Kenya's technological advancement.

Since the initial launch of its 5G network in October 2022, Safaricom has been focused on accelerating its rollout to meet the rising demand.

The company envisions leveraging this cutting-edge technology to unlock new opportunities, with the ultimate goal of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-driven technology firm by 2030.

As Safaricom continues to expand its 5G footprint, it is poised to drive significant changes in the digital landscape, enhancing connectivity, and fostering innovation across the nation.
