The Ministry of Health has announced a breakthrough in the country’s battle against Mpox, confirming the full recovery of the first patient diagnosed with the disease.

Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary, Mary Muthoni, revealed the positive development during a press briefing at the Ministry headquarters in Nairobi today.

Muthoni disclosed that the patient had been under intense medical supervision as health officials meticulously studied the case and its transmission patterns.

"Due to the highly infectious nature of Mpox and in line with international protocols, we initiated a comprehensive contact tracing exercise to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the patient," PS Muthoni stated.

"Our teams have been diligently working to trace contacts at the patient’s workplace, the hospital where they were admitted, and along their travel route."

While celebrating the patient’s recovery, the Ministry has emphasized the need for sustained vigilance and adherence to preventive measures to curb the spread of Mpox.

With the disease originating from neighbouring Congo, the government has intensified surveillance at border points, particularly those shared with the affected region.

As the country navigates this public health challenge, the Ministry has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with health officials in their efforts to contain the disease.
