The lives of students at St Patrick’s Secondary School Ofafa and the broader Maringo Ward community have been transformed following the commissioning of a state-of-the-art water project, courtesy of the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation.

The newly installed borehole, equipped with solar power, pumping and piping infrastructure, and ample storage, will provide a sustainable and reliable source of clean water to approximately 25,000 residents.

This intervention comes as a much-needed relief to the area, which has grappled with chronic water shortages for years.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, KPC Managing Director and Foundation Chairman, Joe Sang, emphasized the company's commitment to uplifting communities through essential resource provision.

"Today, Kenya’s water supply and sanitation is characterized by low levels of access especially in the urban slums and rural areas," he stated.

"Studies indicate that 15 million people in Kenya lack access to safe water. These statistics pose a challenge to each one of us to play our part in conserving our water catchment areas and use the resource responsibly.."

Maringo Ward MCA Patrick Mwangi Macharia hailed the initiative as a game-changer for the community.

"I extend my heartfelt gratitude to KPC Foundation for their efforts in alleviating the longstanding water scarcity issue in this area," Macharia stated.

"The new borehole will bring about a transformative change… improving the quality of life for everyone in the area."

The Sh3 million project, part of KPC Foundation's broader Corporate Social Investment strategy, is the fourth water project undertaken by the organization.

Recognizing the importance of efficiency, the Foundation has acquired a new borehole drilling rig to accelerate its efforts in providing clean water access to more communities.

Beyond water provision, the KPC Foundation is committed to environmental sustainability.

The project includes tree-planting initiatives to protect water catchment areas.

This holistic approach aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030.

The successful implementation of this water project is a testament to KPC Foundation’s dedication to improving the lives of Kenyans, especially those in marginalized areas.

As the Foundation continues to expand its reach, hopes are high for more such transformative initiatives across the country.
