Kenya Airways and Safaricom have signed a deal in an effort to boost innovations that will enable the airline operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and enhance customer experience.

The deal seeks to boost KQ’s connectivity, in-flight Wi-Fi, infrastructure inspection, security surveillance, loyalty programs, software development, data science, and aviation innovation.

KQ Chief Information and Data Officer Fredrick Kitunga says the national carrier’s pact with Kenya’s largest telecommunications firm shows the developmental power of co-creation.

“By harnessing our combined expertise, we are not only addressing today's challenges but also laying the groundwork for sustainable growth, enhanced connectivity, and transformative innovations that will benefit our customers and communities for years to come," stated Kitunga.

The agreement will also see the two firms develop and implement Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for warehousing, baggage tracking, aircraft material and ULD, to cover tracking, location, reconciliation and stock taking.

Safaricom Head of Business Cynthia Kropac says the Memorandum of Understanding shows the telco’s pledge to providing a transformative and innovative experience to its customers.

“By leveraging our respective strengths—Kenya Airways in providing safe journeys and Safaricom in cutting-edge communications and technology—we ensure that our customers remain seamlessly connected throughout their travels," she concluded.
