In a landmark achievement for Kenya and Africa, Patrick Obath has been appointed Vice Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Executive Board.

The appointment, announced on June 11, 2024, during the ICC's annual meeting in Paris, signifies growing African influence in global business leadership.

Obath, a highly respected figure in East African business circles, boasts an impressive career spanning over 35 years in the oil and gas industry.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a professional director for over 12 years.

His expertise lies in corporate governance, sustainability, and advisory services across the mining, energy, and oil & gas sectors.

The ICC, representing 45 million companies across the globe and holding UN Observer Status, plays a pivotal role in international trade.

"His appointment underscores the growing influence and leadership of Kenya and Africa in the global business arena," stated the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) in a press release.

Obath's dedication to fostering sustainable business practices is well documented.

He previously held the position of Chairman of both the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the KEPSA Foundation.

His leadership extends to various boards, including the East African Business Council, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, and the National Oil Corporation of Kenya.

Currently, he actively participates in companies across diverse sectors including Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT, and services.

Obath's commitment to African economic development is further evident in his leadership roles at PZ Cussons EA Limited, Java House Africa, Adrian Kenya Limited, Trade Catalyst Africa, Kenya Markets Trust, and African Alliance Investment Bank.

His new position at ICC Paris is anticipated to further elevate Africa's presence and influence in international commerce and trade.
