Absa Bank Kenya has announced a substantial investment of Sh75 million in the upcoming 2024 Magical Kenya Open (MKO) tournament, solidifying its position as the event's official presenting partner.

This sponsorship reflects Absa Bank's dedication to bolstering national development through sports tourism and supporting talent and enterprise within Kenya.

During the announcement ceremony, Abdi Mohamed, Managing Director of Absa Bank Kenya PLC, underscored the bank's commitment to elevating the tournament's significance beyond the realm of golf.

He emphasized how the event serves as a platform to showcase Kenya's vibrant culture, talent, and opportunities to the world, fostering a positive narrative of resilience and determination within the nation.

"As a brand, we have a longstanding sponsorship of golf in this country, which has promoted Kenya as both a sporting and tourism destination," remarked Mr. Mohamed.

"This tournament has proven itself as a platform that showcases Kenya to the world, as a vibrant tapestry of culture, talent, and opportunity."

The investment allocates SH55 million to support the Local Organising Committee through Kenya Open Golf Limited, ensuring the delivery of another world-class tournament.

An additional Sh20 million is designated to enhance the overall experience for attendees and followers, promising memorable moments during the event.

The announcement was met with support from Ababu Namwamba, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, who expressed the government's commitment to creating an enabling environment for sports organizations, both public and private, to thrive.

He emphasized the importance of private sector partnerships in providing the resources necessary to organize world-class events and support athletes in their pursuit of excellence.

Patrick Obath, the tournament director of Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL), expressed gratitude for Absa's continued support, emphasizing the significance of the MKO as a platform for enhancing socio-economic and sustainability linkages globally.

Scheduled from February 22 to 25, the 2024 Magical Kenya Open promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent, with over 140 elite golfers from around the world competing for a mouth-watering $2 million prize purse.

The event will also feature the inaugural golf tournament for the disabled in Africa, a charity dinner for sports development, and a business conference aimed at attracting investors to Kenya.

Since its inception in 1967, the Kenya Open has evolved into one of Kenya's and Sub-Saharan Africa's most prestigious sporting events, attracting international attention and fostering authentic connections with Kenyan fans of the sport.
