Safaricom’s M-Pesa mobile money transfer services have been fully restored after hours of disruption, bringing relief to millions of users who were adversely affected by the outage.

In a statement on Tuesday, the telco regretted inconveniences the outage had caused its customers and thanked them for their patience as the company worked to restore services.

Safaricom admitted that the service disruption had adversely affected its customers.

"All M-Pesa services are now available. We apologise for any inconveniences caused, and thank you for your patience as we worked to restore services," the statement read in part.

Safaricom customers, who heavily rely on M-Pesa for their daily transactions, on Tuesday lamented on social media over their inability to access the service to make transactions.

However, Safaricom failed to disclose the exact cause of the major service disruption that rendered the M-Pesa app, the Sim Toolkit and the USSD code unusable to its customers.

Safaricom, which is the leading telecommunications company in Kenya, launched M-Pesa in 2007 and has played a critical role in the adoption and growth of mobile financial services.

Kenyans use M-Pesa services to make financial transactions, including money transfers, bill payments, and mobile banking with the disruption leaving many cashless Kenyans stranded.
