Moja Expressway Company on Tuesday announced that a section of the famous Nairobi Expressway will be closed to all motorists for the entire day on Wednesday.

According to a notice from the company, the Nairobi Expressway entrance at Mlolongo in Machakos County will be closed to traffic from 7am to 7pm on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday 27th December 2023, we will temporarily close Mlolongo Entrance from 0700hrs to 1900hrs,” the company announced in a notice.

Moja Expressway, which operates the busy road, said the temporary closure is meant to pave way for the maintenance of pavements between Mlolonog and Syokimau toll stations.

“We urge the public to use the Syokimau entrance when heading to Nairobi CBD from Mlolongo. Apologies for the inconvenience,” the firm added.

Recently released data shows between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles use the 27km elevated road from Mlolongo to Westlands daily as motorists opt to save on expensive fuel and time.

About 180,000 cars have subscribed to use the Nairobi Expressway with 10,000 more using electronic tolling cards (ETC) with an exit at Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi CBD set to be completed in early 2024.
