Transport authorities, in collaboration with the police, apprehended the driver and conductor of an Embassava bus after it was found dangerously overloaded with revellers hanging precariously on the door frames.

The arrest, prompted by the National Transport and Safety Authority's (NTSA) summons, was made on Outering Road, where a video capturing the perilous journey quickly went viral.

The detained crew, now held at Capitol Hill police station, faces charges related to risking the lives of passengers, violating traffic rules, and operating an unworthy vehicle under the public service vehicle (PSV) guise.

Their court appearance is scheduled for the 27th of December.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, a vocal advocate for road safety, expressed gratitude to the public for bringing attention to the incident.

In a statement on his social media pages, he emphasized the collective responsibility in maintaining road safety, stating, "Everyone has a role to play on matters of road safety. Let every Kenyan report incidents of recklessness on our roads."

The incident has spurred a nationwide crackdown by the NTSA and police targeting both PSV and private vehicles.

By the close of Friday, more than 200 vehicles had been impounded across the country, marking a significant effort to curb the operation of unworthy vehicles and address traffic rule violations during the festive season.
