Easy Coach Limited (ECL), a prominent bus company, has reinstated the transportation of fish and fish products as accompanied luggage on its buses.
The decision comes after a temporary suspension that was put in place due to complaints from clients about poorly packaged fish contaminating their accompanied luggage.
In a statement issued by ECL, the company acknowledged the concerns raised by some of their clients regarding the transportation of fish and fish products.
The complaints centered around the contamination of accompanying luggage due to inadequate packaging of the fish items. As a result of these concerns, the company made the decision to suspend the carrying of fish and fish products as accompanied luggage.
The suspension was announced in a memo dated 11 August 2023, addressed to all area and branch managers of Easy Coach Limited.
The memo read: "We wish to inform you that with immediate effect, Fish and the products thereof are all forbidden on ECL transport system, whether accompanied or as Parcels. It is hoped that you will all co-operate with the directive to forestall the related complications that have been a source of heartache to all concerned. Kindly comply."
However, Easy Coach Limited has now lifted the ban after addressing the packaging concerns.
The company clarified that passengers are now permitted to carry various types of fish products, including fried, dried, smoked, and salted varieties such as "mbuta," "ngege," "kamongo," and "omena."
The permission is contingent upon appropriate and secure packaging to prevent any leakage or contamination issues during transit.
"The suspension has been lifted and you can now carry your fried, dried, smoked, salted; mbuta, ngege, kamongo, omena etc, ONLY as accompanied luggage on our buses on condition that it is appropriately packed," Easy Coach said.
This decision comes as a relief to passengers who rely on Easy Coach's transport services for their luggage and cargo needs, particularly when it comes to transporting fish and fish products.
The reinstatement of this service is expected to benefit both the company and its customers, ensuring smoother travel experiences and preventing any further complications related to fish transportation.
