Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry on Thursday hosted an Indonesian business delegation as Kenya makes efforts to boost trade relations between Kenya and Indonesia.

The ministry in collaboration with Kenya Investment Authority hosted the Indonesian team led by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Pandjaitan high-level delegation expressed interest in pursuing lucrative business opportunities between the two friendly countries while strengthening their bilateral ties.

The energy, agriculture & livestock, oil & gas, edible oils, textile & apparel, tourism, water, pharmaceuticals, electrical vehicles, blue economy and mining sectors were all represented.

Investment CS Moses Kuria announced that Pertamina CEO Nickie Widyawati, the 23rd most influential woman in the world, pledged to invest Sh400 billion in Kenya’s energy and oil sector.

The Export Processing Zone Authority also signed a deal with Indonesia’s textile industry to establish a factory in Kenya that seeks to employ more than 5,000 people in Kenyan.


The delegation also committed to venture into geothermal energy, electric mobility, blue economy and mining while also promoting skilled labour, tourism, meat and poultry export.

Acting KENINVEST MD June Chepkemei encouraged the Indonesian business leaders to pump their company monies into various ready and bankable projects that Kenya present.

The delegation also met Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir and Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs CS Salim Mvurya among other government and private sector players.


Kuria said the visit presents a great opportunity for Indonesian firms to explore and create long-term partnerships, exchange ideas and leverage major growth potential for both countries.
