Insurance service provider Old Mutual has revealed plans to conduct intensive training programmes for its agents in a bid to endow them and maintain a competitive edge.

Old Mutual says the move seeks to equip Old Mutual agents with the skills they require to represent and reflect the brand's values in terms of customer service and experience.

Speaking at the Old Mutual Inaugural East Africa Regional (EAR) Awards, Group EA CEO Arthur Oginga said the training’s modules will have leadership, customer care, sales and training aspects.

“Agents have emerged as the largest growing source of premium contributions, with their proportional contribution to total premiums expanding consistently yearly. As a result, we acknowledge their pivotal role in our growth and the industry,” said Oginga.

He added, “To foster their development while boosting their competitiveness, we are considering a tier system that enables them to build a career with us. By staying with us longer, they enhance their skills and climb up the tiers, resulting in higher remuneration.”

Old Mutual hosted its inaugural EAR Awards, which saw its top agents rewarded for their exceptional performance with trophies, cash prizes and local and international trips.

“Our agents play a crucial role in our business model as they serve as the vital connection to our valued customers. As such, we deeply appreciate and recognise their outstanding contributions,” Old Mutual General Insurance Managing Director Japheth Ogallo said.

He added, “These awards serve as a means to attract talented agents who can effectively distribute our solutions to customers, retain our top-performing agents, and duly acknowledge their exceptional performance within our organisation.”

60 agents were recognised during the awards, with those who bagged the Life Business Award winning trips to Zanzibar and Namibia and an international trip to the United States.

Others who won the General Insurance Awards got local, regional and international trips.

“Through these awards, we believe agents can see that Old Mutual not only pay statutory commissions but goes over and above to appreciate their stellar performance,” said Old Mutual Life Acting Group Managing Director Calvince Onduru.

He added, “By investing in their success and fostering a culture of collaboration and support, we hope to ensure long-lasting partnerships and mutual growth."
