Global financial institution World Bank has covenanted to support President William Ruto’s Hustler Fund, which seeks to uplift the lives of the most vulnerable groups in Kenya.

This was revealed on Tuesday after a meeting between Ruto and World Bank Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa, at State House Nairobi.

According to a statement by State House, Kwakwa said World Bank will offer the Sh50 billion a year Hustler Fund its technical and financial support.

“The bank associates strongly with programs and initiative that empower the poor and most vulnerable. We will bring to the table ways to provide a safety net for these individuals,” said Kwakwa.

She said the Bank will also support Kenya’s programmes against the adverse effects of the global climate change.

On his part, President Ruto lauded the role World Bank has played in Kenya’s development and urged it to upscale its investment in programmes to boost local agricultural production.

The Head of State says his Kenya Kwanza government is working on constructing dams and offering fertilizer subsidies to farmers among interventions aimed at boosting agriculture.

“We are looking forward to your support in our development agenda,” President Ruto said.

World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans and grants to governments of low and middle income countries for use in pursuing capital projects.
