Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) on Monday announced it has appointed Joe Sang as its acting managing director.
Sang made a return to KPC after the three-year term of MD Irungu Macharia came to an end on January 1 and was not renewed by the board.
Irungu was hired to head KPC in November 2019 for a three-year renewable term and was picked from Gulf Africa Petroleum Corporation, where he was the Chief Executive Officer.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors of KPC, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Kimutai Sang as acting Managing Director with effect from January 23, 2023,” KPC Board Chairman Faith Boinett stated in a statement.
In her statement announcing his return to KPC, Faith Boinett expressed confidence Sang will use his past experience and knowledge at KPC to enhance its performance going forward.

“Mr Sang has a very good grasp of all the issues and processes at KPC and in view of his good performance record with the company, the Board of Directors in consultation with the parent ministry (Ministry of Energy and Petroleum) determined that he is the most suitable person to be appointed to the position act acting MD KPC,” stated Boinnet.
President William Ruto appointed Faith Boinett to chair the KPC board in December after he revoked the appointment of Rita Okuthe.
Joe Sang was the KPC MD from 2016 to 2018, when he resigned and was arraigned in Nairobi alongside five other officials over the Sh1.9 billion Kisumu oil jetty construction scandal.
Sang was acquitted in December 2022 alongside former KPC officials Nicholas Gatobu (Procurement Manager), Gloria Khafafa (Secretary), Vincent Cheruiyot (Procurement Head), Samuel Odonyo (General Manager, Finance) and Billy Aseka (General Manager, Infrastructure GM).
