The owner of 1824 nightclub on Lang’ata Road has rushed to court to seek its intervention in reopening of his clubs that was shut down last month for violating Covid-19 protocols.
1824 was closed by the authorities on November 17 following reports that it was not observing measures the government had put in place to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
Wilson Kanani and Seventeen Forty Nine Ltd, in a petition filed under a certificate of urgency, argued that the shutdown by police infringed on his rights as well as that of his workers.
Through his lawyer Duncan Okatch, Kanani complained that his business losses per day amounted to at least Sh1.5 million since the closure of his nightcub.

He has listed the Ministry of Health, Nairobi Regional Commander, OCS Lang’ata and the Lang’ata officer in charge of health in the urgent petition filed in Nairobi.
Through his lawyer, Kanani accused police of refusing to allow the club to reopen and instead constantly harassing his employees at 1824 despite complying with all Covid-19 protocols.
In June, the popular club found itself in trouble with the authorities after a video emerged of revellers openly violating Covid-19 regulations while having a good time during the Madaraka Day weekend.
