Kenya Railways has temporarily slashed fares for its commuter train from the Central Railway Station to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from Sh500 to Sh250 following public outcry.
Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) announced the fares for 90 days on Thursday as it unveiled the Nairobi Commuter Rail-JKIA Express Service in collaboration with national carrier Kenya Airways.
The service is expected to grant passengers access to a more convenient, safe and cost-effective transport to JKIA from Nairobi's Central Business District and vice versa.

The integrated service of rail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is expected to operate between 5:45am – 9pm and will cost each passenger Sh250 per trip for the 20-minute long ride.
“This service goes a long way in addressing the challenge of gridlocks on the roads around the city. The service will ensure a safe and cost-effective means of transport for all passengers,” said Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Phillip Mainga.
“Besides decongesting the roads around the city, both developments will enhance the ease of doing business within the city. Our economy will grow, and our people will also grow,” said KRC Board Chairman Maj Gen (Rtd) Pastor Awitta.
The trip on the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service from the Nairobi City Center to JKIA involves a ride on the Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) train up to Embakasi Village then a BRT bus to JKIA.
