A warrant of arrest has been issued against two directors of Purma Holdings Limited for failing to appear in court and answer charges of unpaid taxes amounting to Sh2.2 billion.

Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate, Felix Mutinda Kombo, issued the warrants on Monday after Mary Wambui Mungai and Purity Njoki Mungai also failed to honor Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) summons on the same matter.

Wambui and Njoki two face eight counts of knowingly and unlawfully omitting taxes due in the income tax returns submitted to the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes for the 2014-2020 period.

The court was informed that the two failed to honor summons to appear before KRA on December 3 to be informed of the charges against them and instead sent their accountant.

Through their lawyer Sylvanus Osoro, Njoki informed the court that she was admitted in hospital from November 29 but did not provide any medical records to back her allegation.

The court said it was clear that the summons were properly served upon the accused and neglected to honor them.

The magistrate noted that the accused persons were buying time instead of confronting the charges leveled against them which were grave in nature and done in public interest.

The case will be mentioned on December 14 or the earliest the accused will be arrested and presented before court.
