The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) will hold public meetings in July 2025 to gather views on the proposed development of Integrated Master Plans for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport.

The planned developments include a Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) carried out by Dar Al Handasah Consultants (Shair and Partners) and Geodev (K) Ltd.

The exercise is being conducted in line with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999.

According to KAA, “The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is developing the Integrated Master Plans for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport (WAP) to guide future developments and enhance service delivery. This master planning process includes a comprehensive Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) being undertaken by Dar Al Handasah Consultants (Shair and Partners) and Geodev (K) Ltd, in accordance with the guidelines of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999.”

The assessment will involve neighbouring communities, institutions, and individuals with an interest in the airports’ operations.

“The SESA process requires broad stakeholder engagement, involving neighbouring communities, organisations, and individuals who may be affected by, or have an interest in, the planning and future operations of the two airports," KAA said.

Three meetings have been scheduled for areas surrounding Wilson Airport. They are as follows:

Nairobi West, at Lang’ata DCC Boardroom, on 21st July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

South C, at South C CDF Hall, on 23rd July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

Lang’ata Mugumoini, at Chief’s Grounds, on 28th July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

For JKIA, the following meetings are scheduled:

Syokimau, at Syokimau Chief’s Grounds, on 22nd July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

Utawala, at Mihang’o Chief’s Office, on 25th July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon

KAA said the purpose of the meetings is to explain the planning scope and collect public input.

“The main purpose of these meetings is to inform the public and stakeholders about KAA’s intention to develop the JKIA and Wilson Airport master plans, explain the scope of the planning process, and gather input, views, and concerns," the authority stated.

"Your participation will help shape the future of these airports and ensure that community issues are well understood and taken into account."

The Authority has encouraged the public to attend and share their views. “Your participation and engagement will be highly appreciated.”
