TikTok removed more than 360,000 videos from Kenya in Q2 2024, representing 0.3 per cent of all uploads in the country, as part of its commitment to uphold content safety standards.
According to TikTok’s latest transparency report, 99.1 per cent of the deleted videos were flagged by an automated system even before users reported them, with 95 per cent of these taken down within 24 hours.
The report also revealed that 60,465 accounts in Kenya were banned for guideline violations.
Significantly, 57,262 of these accounts were suspected to be operated by users under 13, reinforcing TikTok's dedication to age compliance and safety measures for younger audiences.
Globally, TikTok reported an increase in video removals, with 178 million videos deleted in June 2024 alone.

Among these, 144 million were automatically flagged, showcasing the platform’s heavy reliance on artificial intelligence for proactive moderation.
TikTok emphasized that AI-driven moderation not only speeds up response times but also limits human moderators' exposure to harmful content, blending technology and human oversight to create a safer digital space.
